Onion Skinning.

Onion skinning is a 2D effect used for computer graphics. It's a technique used to create animations like animated cartoons. It's achieved by using frames that are translucent and projecting them over one another.

How is onion skinning used in traditional animation?
In traditional cartoon animations, onion skin was used to create the animated effect. The individual frames of the movie were drawn on thin onion skin paper over a light source.
